Some new emoticons

Yesterday I was explaining emoticons to my daughter (who is nearly seven). I started by saying "this is how I make a happy face"... :) ... and so on. She understood right away and, not burdened with any other knowledge, started making up her own:

  • :k - frowning guy with a moustache
  • :j - smiling guy with a pimple on his face
  • :X - "he drew two lines across his mouth with permanent marker"
  • :o - "he's screaming"
  • :oy - "he's screaming 'oy'"
  • :I - "he just ate a cookie"
  • : E - "he's drooling"
  • : # - I think this was someone chewing something with tape over their mouth

"Screaming oy" is my favourite for how it both observes and ignores emoticon conventions. But the drooling guy made me laugh.

'Screaming :oy' has my vote. Drooler boy and Sharpie mouth tie for second. And smiling guy with pimple is magic.
