CanUX speaker list
We've firmed up the list of workshop leaders for CanUX, the user experience workshop we're putting together with the Banff Centre in late September. It's looking really good:
- Scott Hirsch of Management Innovation Group will be doing a business and design workshop. We couldn't have found a better guy. While he was at Adaptive Path, Scott helped write their seminal report on ROI and user experience. His recent essay, A Crisis in Innovation, is also a must-read for anyone that has to consult with large organizations.
- Steve Portigal is a customer research consultant who's done work for Sony, Shure, DuPont, IBM and scads of other household names. I hate to abuse the word "guru", but when it comes to customer research Steve's in that category. He also runs the excellent Discovery mailing list, the occasional (but always good) Fresh Meat, and blogs both here and there. Steve will be leading a session on ethnographic research.
- Marc Rettig will lead a workshop on turning research into design. I only know Marc by reputation (though I think we sat next to each other at DUX '03), but he's had a prolific career teaching (at CMU recently) and doing research and interaction design (for the BBC, US Army and Microsoft among others). He can also turn a hotel room into a giant pinhole camera. Marc's company is Fit Associates (PDF).
- BlastRadius and Critical Mass, two Canadian agencies with strong user experience practices (and ordnance-themed names), will be leading sessions.
- I'm not 100% certain about this, but I think Dave Robertson--currently chief usability engineer at Symantec, IA Institute advisor, and a swell guy who should really have a blog I could link to here--will be organizing a "design slam" on the first night of the workshop.
The other exciting news is that CanUX is almost half full. If you're thinking of going, you might want to register soon.
(And if you can't do that, maybe add it to your goal list on 43things?)
