Tsunamis
An old friend of mine, Gord Roline, has been touring through China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with his girlfriend for the past few months. He posts about their adventures regularly on his blog, Slyboots. They've been teaching at a diving school on Koh Phi Phi in Thailand, and they have tons of great photos and movies of their dives. Today I got this email:
Koh Phi Phi has been erased and we've lost everything. It was terrible but I can't write anything right now, but we're alive.
We borrowed a little money so we'll try some calls soon.
Gordie and Aletha
Thailand was spared the worst of the tsunamis. But still... holy shit.
Update: Gord's published a few more details:
I'm sure most of you have heard that Koh Phi Phi was devastated by the recent tsunami. Aletha was swept away but survived an incredible ordeal thanks to her great swimming skills. I was underwater at the time with a fun diver and dealt with washing machine-like conditions. Our house is gone -- not collapsed but erased, along with everything we owned. Thank goodness, some of my family were in Bangkok at the time and we were re-united yesterday in Krabi.
