Think Tank: words followed me everywhere
A while ago I wrote about my Think Tank, a head-sized sphere that contains 13,000 little plastic strips with words printed on them. Today I received this email from Milo Bojicic:
I don't have a Think Tank but I made most of the 20,000+ in existence. Sorry to disappoint but there are no parts available any more. They were originaly available in black, white and red. I made a very precious few with alternating colors. Cutting the words was a nightmare. The words in each Think Tank started as a stack of 3 styrene sheets 36" x 36" printed with columns of words. We used a big guillotine cutter to cut the sheets by column. Then we glued the columns together at one end and sliced the through the stack word by word. The sheet material was not perfectly flat or uniform thickness and the printing was not perfectly aligned so getting all the words aligned was very difficult. To make things worse we wrapped each stack of columns to hold the words together and cut 30 stacks at a time. Savo is a perfectionist, he wanted to make sure each Think Tank had it’s own complete set. Words followed me everywhere. In my pants, in my shoes, in my hair. I couldn’t reach into my pocket for some change at the store without pulling out a few. They turned up in the strangest places. This is the only reference to Think Tank I have found on the web. Actually a friend sent me your link. It’s nice to know there are some fans out there.
Words followed me everywhere. You have to see the Think Tank's word chits to understand how that's possible. There's a lovely image in Milo's message--reaching into your pocket and paying for a coffee with two transepts, and a dolorousness. Maybe getting cotillion back in change. If the service was bad you might leave bunion as a tip. If it were a French bakery they'd only accept fête, blancmange and sang froid. I like that.
