80s skate news round-up

Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator, which opens in select cities this Friday, is the story of Mark "Gator" Rogowski, the one-time pro skater now serving 31 years in prison. According to the reviews Stoked is also a history of 80s skateboarding and, in a way, a continuation of the story started in Dogtown and Z-Boys. Cool. I'm really looking forward to this (sweet nostalgia, wash over me). Also, if you have a morbid streak, you can buy yourself a Gator t-shirt or deck.

In other news, Christian Hosoi should be released from jail this week. Black Label skates will be making his new deck (sorry, not a hammerhead).

Gene says...

Here's a quote from the NY Times review of Stoked: "But despite the earnest testimony of two former girlfriends, the movie maintains a chilly distance from its subject. No one leaps to Mr. Rogowski's defense, as so often happens when a killer is young and glamorous."
