Trying so hard not to call this "Surfin' Safari"

I'm a lazy Wintard TM so I don't find much that's interesting about Apple's new web browser Safari. But this image and alt text, which appears by the line "rest assured, Safari renders Web pages properly according to the latest Internet standards", is a little strange:

When did QuickTime, Flash and Shockwave become Internet standards? And why another browser?
