Nothing Hilarious About It...

A complete episode of the "craptastic" Hilarious House of Frightenstein is available for download (link via Boing Boing). No other show scared or confused me so much as a boy. I remember watching it on the 13" black and white television in our first apartment in Edmonton, and waking up occasionally from nightmares about the Wolfman. Some sketches would leave me queasily sick with fear--Grizelda the witch, for one--while others were just perplexing. The Wolfman and Igor dancing in front of the psychedelic background I never understood (er, until I was much older).

On a more personal note, while reading through some information about HHOF, I was surprised to find this quote:

“Wonderful flashbacks of Saturday mornings (7am in Edmonton on ITV after Max Mouse & Prof. Kitzel... if I remember correctly), laying on the couch, eating cereal, etc. right until Spiderman ended at noon.”
— Gordie Roline, 1998

It can only be the Gord Roline who lived three doors away from me and was my best friend through most of high school. The talented, crazy, Andy Kaufman-esque Gord Roline. We spent about 80% of our late teens (along with Geoff and Wayne) watching bad horror movies, making our own movies and skateboarding. Sadly, of the 40 or so home movies we made--including the, ehm, peerless Zombie Hippies from Hell--just one tape remains.

Anyway, I haven't seen Gord in ages but running across his name again reminded me of how much fun we had.
