Found this interesting article in Online Journalism Review on
Web Shells. I'm still fuzzy on what
exactly a web shell is, other than templates that display a set of content elements in a particular way depending on the context. The most interesting point in the article is that interface/information architecture issues might be having an impact on how journalists do their jobs:
...the links to data, resources, backgrounders and archives that wrap around the news of the day or features... are having more impact on the practice of journalism than reporters and editors might suspect.
On a somewhat related note, I've been meaning to post a link to Ron Reason's site--he's an award-winning newspaper designer. Oh, and let's not forget about Visual Journalism.
