7. Untitled, by Greg Arnold

Highlight of Untitled, by Greg ArnoldCowboys run through our halls. That's because the trail boss, Marvin, chooses most of the art for our office and, frankly, he's likes it Western.

Untitled, by Greg Arnold
But my office has become a refuge for several cool-yet-unappreciated objects (well I think they're cool and the fact that few of my co-workers do seems to me an assurance that I'm right). Anyway, Untitled (1957), by Alberta modernist painter Greg Arnold, is one of those unappreciated things. I hijacked it from an illustrious spot over a photocopier in an office that was mid-renovation.

The subject of Untitled is a Suessian contraption with no apparent purpose (and in that way perhaps a perfect representation of bureaucracy) sitting on a cloudy background. I wish I could tell you more about Greg Arnold, or show you more of his work, but there is virtually no mention of him on the web. Sad, that, since I know of at least two Alberta galleries that have his works in their collections, if not on display.

These pictures, unfortunately, don't convey the full depth of colour in this painting, and tend to over-emphasize the blues (and needless to say, having to do this every single day means I don't have a whole lot of time to set up these pictures or muck with them in PhotoShop). But you get the gist, right?

And if you don't, you could always drop by for a coffee and have a look for yourself.
