6. Sketchbook

Shopping day, a self-portrait As an artist (used in the most humble sense) I don't really have a line. But that hasn't stopped me, at various points in my life, from drawing things around me.

These pictures are from my last serious sketchbook, started in the mid-90s sometime.

I'm often more interested in the idea of a thing than the thing itself, so many of my sketches are outlines, shapes, basic forms, and important details only. I occasionally attempt texture or intricate details, but find that I lack the skill and patience for these areas. That's fine with me, since all I aspire to is an essential sketchiness--the ability to capture a person, scene or object in a few spare lines.
