Livia
Monday morning started with Marvin saying to me "did you hear? They lost another kayaker in Banff." An hour later an email arrived informing me the kayaker was Livia Stoyke of redengine. Shit.
I'd only met Livia a few times. Twice in portfolio meetings--where designers show their work so they can get short-listed for government contracts--and once when I invited her to speak on a user experience panel. She was genuinely excited to be on the panel and, when the university a/v dude forgot to book a projector for the room, drove back to the office to get hers and was exceedingly gracious about the whole affair.
By all accounts the gregarious, passionate, almost-hyperactive woman I'd encountered in those few meetings was a fabulous boss and co-worker (and artist and friend). I don't know... it's just really sad.
