Weezer

Weezer played here last night and, since I went with Brent, Kelly and his girlfriend Amanda, I was merely the fourth oldest person in attendance. The show was held in the Agricom, a venue that usually hosts minor-league hockey games and livestock auctions. It's basically a big concrete bunker, with the acoustics one would expect from such a structure. Despite that, Weezer sounded surprisingly good. The highpoint was the last song in their regular set--an extended version of "Only in Dreams" featuring some stunning twin-guitar feedback. Apparently Rivers welcomed the crowd with this line: "hello, city of champions. This song is in the key of F, the key of champions." *

Also, during the bridge of "Say It Ain't So" I thought I heard him sing "this bottle of Sleeman's..."

* Edmonton calls itself the "City of Champions" because our hockey team won the Stanley Cup a bunch of times in the 1980s. We're not living in the past.
